What I’ve Learnt in 4 Years Of Blogging

Today marks that 4 years ago I found I had far too much free time, and too much makeup, and sat down in my bedroom and signed up for an account on Blogger. About a month before this I’d found that there was people like me that loved makeup, and would write about it on the internet. More than there was just a few of these blogs, but there was a whole community of likeminded people! So I started Lisahh-Jayne, and spent hours talking to other people about lipstick and blusher on Twitter, but I never thought I’d stick to this 4 years later. For something that started as something to do in my spare time, my blog has lead to me to some great places. I’ve made some great friends, been to some amazing events, had the chance to try products I wouldn’t have heard of otherwise, and even got a job with the help of my little blog.




After 4 years I’ve learnt a thing or two about blogging, so I thought I’d share what I’ve learnt.


 


It’s Okay Not to Post Everyday
When I first started blogging I thought I had to post everyday to have great content. I saw other blogs were posting everyday, and used to almost force myself to get posts out. Now I post a few times a week, and that’s okay! My blog’s a hobby and I shouldn’t force myself to do it.




It’s Okay to Take a Break
Following on from my last point, it’s okay to take a break if I don’t feel like blogging. I tend to write my posts up at the weekend and schedule them for the week when I’m busy, and if I don’t feel like writing, I don’t. It’s not the end of the world!


 


Stats Aren’t Everything
I used to be obsessed with how many times a blog post had been viewed, or how many overall views my blog had. My page views completely vary from week to week, and while I like to keep an eye on them, I don’t get as upset as I used to if no one reads a post.




Scheduling Is Key
Scheduling is my best friend. I used to just write blog posts when I wanted to put something up, but now I’m busy with my job during the week being able to schedule my posts and social media updates has helped me out so much!




Talk To Other Bloggers
There’s a whole wonderful blogging community out there, and I’ve made some amazing friends off the back of my blog. I’m always nervous at events about talking to bloggers I don’t know, but I everyone I’ve met is so lovely there’s really nothing to worry about! There’s also some lovely bloggers that I talk to on Twitter that I hope to meet one day.




SEO and Digital Marketing
This is probably the best thing I’ve learnt from my blog, because it’s what I do for a living! I’ve learnt so much about SEO and digital marketing, and as I learn more it’s great to be able to apply it to my blog.
