Save Money By Shopping Abroad*

Do you often find yourself lusting over recent fashion trends but find that their usually far too expensive or completely out of your budget? Recent research from Travelex has shown that some fashion loving Brits head over to the Eurozone and even the Nordics, just to save money on the latest catwalk trends. Sounds crazy right? But it’s true. Over 4 million Brits now head abroad every year just to snap up the latest catwalk trends, while over half buy their clothes and accessories when they’re on their holidays. Popular places include New York, Paris, and Rome.

It’s not just shopping while on holiday, but many Brit’s fashionable holidays start the minute they step on the plane, with 8 in 10 admitting to a pre-holiday shop for new holiday clothes. I know I’m always guilty of this!
If this sounds like you then you’ll be happy to hear that Travelex has recently teamed up with fashion blogger Five Five Fabulous to find the five hottest catwalk trends from LFW for less from five destinations around the world to help you find the most fashionable and affordable items.

Trend 1: Loungewear
Loungewear and lingerie inspired vibes are looking strong for SS16, after being featured in Givenchy’s show in New York, featuring elements of silk and lace.
This complete look from Eudon Choi can be purchased for around £700 on average, while if you were to purchase it from Ron Herman Boutique in LA, it comes in for under $300, giving you savings of up to £505.

 Trend 2: Colour blocking
The colour blocking trend was strong on day two of London fashion week, with it being featured during Narciso Rodriguez and Zac Posen shows in New York. Charlie May’s colourful collection of single pieces average at £750, styled together to create head to toe colour block outfit.
Meanwhile if you look out for Swedish brand, Filippa K, similar pieces go for up to £500 less – providing good value for Brits heading to Sweden. The pound is also much stronger over there, so you’ll find they can stretch 10% further in Sweden.

 Trend 3: Off the Shoulder
The off the shoulder trend was spotted at the Edun and Proenza Schouler shows during New York’s fashion week. Travelex discovered that you could save over £250 by shopping at Designers Remix in Denmark, again another place where the pound is strong.

 Trend 4: Tropical
Embracing the tropical trend is all about capitalsing on the bold colours of summer. During the Anna Sui show in New York, Sophia Webster’s presentation demonstrated strong tropical themes. Her shoes are priced around the £400 mark, which is pretty pricey for shoes. It’s much easier to get the look and save £250 by shopping at Kathryn Wilson in New Zealand, updating your wardrobe for much less!

 Trend 5: Military
Burberry reinforced the militaristic looks that have been hinted at by both the SS16 collections of Marc Jacobs in New York and Versus Versace in London. Both gave a nod to military and featured double-breasted jackets as key parts of their SS16 collections, with Burberry coming in at a high-end £2,000 for the full look.
Recreating the military trend doesn’t need to break the bank, especially with the pound up 8% against the Euro compared to last year, with Brits receiving an extra €51 on every £500 exchanged. Instead of splashing out on expensive items, it’s easier to get the look in Madrid with the exclusive brand Hoss Intropia who offer the double-breasted look, as well as other on-trend pieces in military style blues, greens and greys, whilst giving you savings of over £1,500.
It’s amazing how much money you could save by shopping abroad for the recent trends! Although there is that plane ticket cost to factor in…
