Mog On The Tyne

Having a boyfriend who’s from Sunderland, a lot of our ‘holiday’ time is spent travelling up the A1 to visit friends and family members up there. I enjoy visiting the north, but I do find it very different from down here. They use funny words for one thing. On our last trip up north I found it was only a few weeks after the new cat cafe Mog On The Tyne had opened up in Newcastle, and well I wouldn’t be a self-proclaimed cat lady if I didn’t drag Chris along for a visit.

For years I’ve loved the idea of cat cafe’s after hearing all about how popular they are in Japan, and of course I’ve previously paid (several) visits to Lady Dinah’s in London, so I of course had to check out Newcastle’s offering.

When we turned up at Mog On The Tyne it was like all of my dreams had come true, because no one else had booked the same timeslot as us, meaning we had the whole place and all of the cats to ourselves! There were 10 gorgeous kitties to play with until our hearts content, while drinking coffee and enjoying some delicious cakes from Pet Lamb Patisserie (who is actually Chris’s sister’s friend! Everyone in the north knows each other I swear!).

Our time slot was 5pm, which is when they reopen after cat naps, so there were some pretty adorable sleeping kitties around. However they soon woke up after some encouragement of treats from the staff.

One cat that didn’t need any encouragement of food is Stan, and if you’re not careful he’ll try and run off with your cake. I loved Stan, mostly because he was so friendly, and he looked pretty derpy with his tongue hanging out. I later found out it’s due to the fact he was involved in a pretty bad car accident and had to have his jaw rewired, poor Stan.

We had the best time hanging out with all the adorable cats, and will definitely be back again on our next trip up north, because I will never get bored of drinking a cup of tea with a bunch of cats.
